Letters being distributed October 21–23

Between October 21 and 23, some Parks Canada members will receive letters about workforce adjustment (WFA). If you receive one, read it carefully and talk to your union rep before making any decision. The steps below will guide you.

Affected letters are not termination notices.

The letters being issued at this stage are primarily affected notices. An affected notice means a position may no longer be required in the future. It does not mean employment is ending, and employees continue to work in their current roles while the process unfolds.

What to do if you receive a letter

  1. Read it carefullyIt will tell you your status, such as affected or opting, and any deadlines that apply to you.
  2. Take your timeDon't sign or decide anything in a hurry. If you are an opting employee, you have time to choose between the options in Appendix K of the collective agreement. Your letter will state that deadline.
  3. Contact your union repTalk to them before you make any decision. Find your Local Executive members on the Parks Canada Locals page.

What we know so far

What is WFA?

The employer has decided that some indeterminate positions will no longer be needed after a date. The process is governed by Appendix K of your collective agreement.

Why now?

Parks Canada says this phase is tied to the federal government's spending reductions, and that more WFA announcements are expected as its transformation continues.

Voluntary Departure Program

Eligible employees who are considering leaving may choose to participate. You will have at least 30 days after receiving an affected letter to decide, and may access the options under Appendix K. Voluntary departures help reduce involuntary measures and may protect positions for employees who wish to stay.

What is alternation?

If you are an opting employee, you may be able to swap positions with a non-affected employee who wants to leave. It's voluntary, and a match is not guaranteed. Express interest through the WFA Toolkit on Parks Campus.
